Tour Details

Spanning 370 kilometers square and within close proximity of the capital city of Kampala is Lake Mburo National Park. Perfect scenery for photographers and bird enthusiasts, Lake Mburo is home to a variety of leopards, hippos, zebras, hyenas, impalas, and other animals, and to 350 species of birds. But the adventurous park doesn’t only showcase animals. Underneath the park’s surface are ancient Precambrian metamorphic rocks that are over 500 million years old, making for a geologist’s dream tour. Together with 13 other nearby lakes, Lake Mburo forms part of a 50-kilometer wetland system and has much woodland.

Entebbe is a town on a peninsula in Lake Victoria, in Central Uganda. Area beaches include busy Lido Beach, and Spenah Beach near Entebbe International Airport. The lakeside Uganda Wildlife Education Centre protects native animals in wetland, forest, and savanna habitats. Nearby, Entebbe Botanical Garden has diverse plants, birds, and monkeys. Also close by is the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which protects orphaned chimps.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: KAMPALA/ LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK

This day after an early breakfast, your safari guide will pick you up at your hotel and then proceed to Lake Mburo National park with stopovers at the equator for some photos and a coffee before continuing with your journey. Lake Mburo National Park is a compact gem, located conveniently close to the highway that connects Kampala to the parks of western Uganda.

It is the smallest of Uganda’s savannah national parks and is underlain by ancient Precambrian metamorphic rocks which date back more than 500 million years. It is home to 350 bird species as well including zebra, impala, eland, buffalo, oribi, Defassa waterbuck, leopard, hippo, hyena, topi, and reedbuck. Together with 13 other lakes in the area, Lake Mburo forms part of a 50 km-long wetland system linked by a swamp. Five of these lakes lie within the park’s borders.

Once covered by open savanna, Lake Mburo National Park now contains much woodland as there are no elephants to tame the vegetation. In the western part of the park, the savanna is interspersed with rocky ridges and forested gorges while patches of papyrus swamp and narrow bands of lush riparian woodland line many lakes. Upon arrival, you will have a game drive toward the lodge in time for lunch.

After lunch, you will head for a boat ride where you will encounter wildlife along the banks of the lake. This game drive takes about one and a half hours and later has an evening game drive in search of the elusive leopard and the lions. Dinner and overnight at Ruyonyo camp.

Day 2: HORSE RIDING

Today you will go horse riding in the park and bring you close to lots of wildlife. Lake Mburo is the only national park where you can experience horse riding safaris. Return to the lodge for a full breakfast and relax. You will have an evening game drive in search of lots of games and later return to the lodge. Overnight at Ruyonyo camp

Day 3: Lake Mburo

On this day you will have a safari walk in the park with a ranger guide. This walk starts at about 7:00 am in the morning and takes about two and a half hours. This a very good walk in that it will bring you so close to the animals and your ranger guide will be explaining to you the details about animal behaviors’. After the walk, you will head back to the lodge for a full breakfast. After early dinner, you will head out for a night game drive in search of the elusive nocturnal animals with high probabilities of seeing most of them. This drive takes about 3 hours. Overnight at Ruyonyo camp.

Day 4: Mburo/ Entebbe

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Entebbe Airport for your homeward flight with lunch en-route.
